Worker’s Compensation Injuries

Worker’s Compensation Injuries  FAQs

  • What is Workers' Compensation?

Workers' Compensation is a program that provides for an employee's medical bills if they have been injured while on the job or at their place of employment. If an employee is injured while at work, they should report the injury to their employer and be evaluated by a doctor. The initial evaluation sometimes results in a referral to a specialist. Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Carlson have extensive experience in the evaluation and treatment of injured workers. They strive to provide prompt and expert care to allow the patient to begin the road to recovery.

  • What is the doctor's role in a Workers' Compensation case?

When a person is injured at work, the first thing that usually occurs is that the injury is reported to the employer. After the employer has been notified, the next step is being evaluated by a doctor. Sometimes, the initial evaluation is a doctor on site at the workplace or in an urgent care center or emergency room. During the initial doctor visit, the employee should explain what they were doing at the time of the injury and relay any symptoms they may be experiencing from the injury. Often a referral is made to a specialist. Dr. Kaplan and Dr. Carlson are both board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and have significant experience in the orthopaedic evaluation of the injured worker. They will provide a detailed examination and report to the employee and the employer about the nature of the injury and any necessary restrictions for the employee so that he or she can be safe at work. In severe cases, it may be necessary for the patient to be out of work completely for a time to heal without concern for re-injury.

Dr. Carlson was courteous and practical, and ready to propose options. Despite the late Friday hour, he also spent extra time with me to discuss about other concerns.

I'm walking better than I have in months after my knee surgery. I'd definitely see Dr. Kaplan again should the need arise.
